Thai Airways Has Opened A Restaurant For People Who Miss Eating Airplane Food

If you're a person who enjoys flying or enjoys traveling by plane, there's a slim chance that the reason you enjoy it is because of the in-flight meals they serve. Airlines are not known for having excellent food, at least not for the average passenger, which is what makes Thai Airways new restaurant such an interesting choice.

The Thai Airways International Restaurant is a pop-up airplane-themed restaurant that the airline opened at their headquarters in Bangkok. The idea behind the pop-up restaurant is that with COVID-19 grounding flights for months, customers can come to the restaurant to enjoy a meal and pretend they're in the sky.

The restaurant mimics the design of a plane cabin, with the airline's signature purple, orange, and pink plane seats and pillows. Spare parts of engines, windows, and fan blades were used as furniture, in addition to the traditional plane seats that fill what used to be the airline's office cafeteria.

Whatever used to be served in the cafeteria has been cast aside, and the menu is now exactly as it would be onboard a Thai Airways flight. A bakery breakfast is served starting at 7 a.m., and the main international menu begins at 9 a.m. All staff wear their uniforms as they would in-flight, and passengers have the choice to sit in business or economy class. Meals range between $3 and $5 on average.

The restaurant is open to the public and is estimated to currently be serving around 2,000 meals a day, which is helping to make up some of the lost revenue for the airline during the pandemic. Thai Airways reportedly has plans to turn other offices into similar dining experiences, so they may even be coming to an airport near you soon!
