When traveling, you often want to document every fantastic view and sight you see. While it can be hard to get photographs that match up to the professionals, some ordinary travelers have managed to take some impressive pictures.
These are comparisons between work by professional photographers and amateurs who just happened to snap a great picture.
These Are Literally Like Day And Night
Both of these depict the pagoda at Kiyomizu-Dera, a Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto, Japan. Each photo is gorgeous in its own way, but I’m still impressed that one was taken by an amateur.
That’s A Sharp Drop Off The Cliffs
These two photos were taken of the Seven Sisters Cliffs from Seaford Head in Seaford, England. Seven Sisters is made up of 280 hectares of chalk cliffs and is part of South Downs National Park.
I Would Like To Wake Up To This View
While these photos don’t depict the exact same location at Patagonia, they are nearly identical in style despite one being shot with a high-end DSLR camera and the other from a hotel window with an iPhone.
This Village Looks Like It’s In A Different Time Period
These photos both depict the Plonlein, Kobolzeller Steige and Spitalgasse in the medieval old town of Rothenburg in Bavaria, Germany. Taken from almost the exact same location and angle, both pictures are stunning.
The Fiat Adds The Perfect Italian Touch
These photos were taken of the Dolomite mountains in the Italian Alps. The amateur photographer was taking a road trip across the country in his Fiat when he just had to stop and snap a picture of the view.
Czech These Out!
These photos were both taken showing the Old Town Square of Prague, Czech Republic, with the Church of Our Lady before Týn in the background. The traveler snapped their photo at 5 a.m.
Rise And Shine!
The amateur photographer who took the photograph on the right woke up early to make the hike so that they could see Machu Picchu during the sunrise. The professional photo was also taken in the morning, but from a different angle.
What A Gorgeous Landmark For A Border
These photographs show the Ban Gioc waterfall from the Quây Son river, which sits on the international border between Vietnam and China. The falls are equally gorgeous from ground level and a bird’s eye view.
The Himalayas Are A Sight To Behold
Both of these photos were taken from Nepali villages situated in the Himalaya mountain range. The amateur photographer snapped their picture one morning while hiking through the mountains on the Annapurna circuit.
The Photo Is Centered So Perfectly!
This traveler took a photo of the Rawandiz Valley in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq while hiking through the area. The valley, which was historically used as a trade route, is a magnificent natural site.
That’s A View To Wake Up To
When travel restrictions were put in place in March 2020, Switzerland closed its borders to international travel, but still encouraged domestic tourism. The photo on the right was taken from a hotel bedroom balcony.
I Never Knew Sand Dunes Could Be So Beautiful
The traveler who took the photo on the right spent four days traveling through the Algerian parts of the Sahara desert. The sand dunes of the Sahara can reach heights up to 600 feet!
Bridges That Stand The Test Of Time
This stone bridge is over 300 years old and is so revered that the village of Carrbridge, Scotland, is named after it. Carrbridge (the structure) is located on the northern side of Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park.
One Of The Most Beautiful Cities In The World
These photos of the Santa Maria della Salute church on the grand canal are both impressive, but the one on the right was taken with a phone camera from a traveler’s hotel window.
The African Interior Is Stunning
These photos were both taken in Uganda near the city of Kisoro and depict Lake Mutanda, which is nestled in the foothills of the Virunga Mountain Range. The traveler was hiking the area when he snapped this photo.
The Island Of Capri
Capri is an island in the bay of Naples known for its rugged landscapes and high-end hotels on the waterfront. The traveler took the photo on the right whilst on a morning hike on the island.
Imagine Seeing These Majestic Creatures In Person
These photos of zebras drinking from a stream were both taken in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Serengeti is home to over 300 species of mammals and 800 species of birds.
Who Knew A Desert Could Be So Beautiful?
These photos were both taken in Joshua Tree National Park, in California, at the point where the Mojave Desert meets the Colorado desert. The person who took the photo on the right was merely driving through on a road trip when they stopped to snap this photo.
That Is A Sight To Wake Up To
This amateur photographer woke up at 4:30 in the morning, and this was their view while they sipped their coffee. Cappadocia is preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is famous for its hot air balloon trips.
A Hike With A View
Both of these photos were taken at Angel’s Landing, a point inside Zion National Park in southwestern Utah. The steep red cliffs of the canyon are a sight to behold.
